whisk gourmet

photo1Confession . . . I am a total sucker for cute restaurants with fresh and local foods items that are bursting with  flavor. With its country decor and amazing twists on some classics, Whisk Gourmet in Coral Gables is one of my absolute favorite lunch spots, especially for those longs days at the UM School of Law. I always crave the Roasted Turkey, Cranberries, and Goat Cheese salad! The dressing is made fresh every morning and the roasted meat is made in-house. The place is humming with locals, so be prepared to wait a few minutes if you are coming during lunch hour. I can guarantee it will be worth the wait!

the return of Vampire Weekend

Ever since I saw Vampire Weekend perform live in Madrid at Joy Nightclub, I fell in love with the American indie rock/pop band. Originally from New York, Vampire Weekend always captures my attention because of their catchy and kinetic songs which are unmistakably theirs. Their third album, Modern Vampires of the City, was just released, and this song is unquestionably my favorite. I adore the music video for its black-and-white New York City charm, and, in usual Vampire Weekend fashion, the song lyrics present a commitment to clever wordplay that has an emotional core and depth. I particularly love the lyric: “Wisdom’s a gift, but you’d trade it for youth.” Also, I appreciate the reference to Modest Mouse (another one of my indie rock favorites).

Major kudos to my brother, Colin, for showing me the new album and highlighting this track.
